Wild Keeper Summer 2018

At the beginning of Summer I applied to be a Wild Keeper Ambassador for the organization Keep It Wild. I was thrilled when I got them email saying that I was accepted to be an official Wild Keeper of the organization. I really wanted to connect with other like minded individuals that had a love for the outdoors, hiking and the environment just like me. The process once I got accepted was very smooth. Each Wild Keeper was put into a group of no more then 20 other people. I noticed that my group was a bunch of people that lived somewhat close to me which I thought was a bonus! I ended up becoming really good friends with a few of them. This organization provided an opportunity to create real bonds with people outside of just becoming social media “friends”. I have gone hiking and built real-life relationships with these people and consider them close friends.

The final Summer 2018 Impact Day was on Monday, August 27th and I wanted to bring my kids along to show them how important it is to preserve the environment. It was amazing to watch how eager Camden was to help start filling the bucket with all the trash we found. As we hit the trails Camden is a lot more vocal about how we need to pick up the trash that we find out and about. It is so important to instill the values of protecting and preserving nature early one. They are the ones that are going to be in charge of maintaining the lands in the future. We must start them young.

I am looking forward to continuing my involvement with Keep It Wild as a Wild Keeper Mentor. One of my goals this upcoming semesters is to hold as many opportunities my group is willing. I want to get out there and connect. I found those face to face meetups so inspiring as a group. It is a very powerful, rewarding feeling to know that you are a bigger movement.
