A popular, sought out hike Phoenix trail. In all honesty it is hard for me to consider this a hike or a workout but, more of a lookout spot. However, in the eyes of my 3 year-old and 1 year-old it is a hike in their eyes. When I am by myself I can get up in 5-10 minutes and that includes from my parking lot.
For us living a good hour from Phoenix, Arizona I wouldn’t drive out here solely for this hike but, if we were out to visit the Phoenix Zoo or the Desert Botanical Gardens I would make it a point to get up there weather permitting. There are always a ton of families, and kids hiking this trail – I personally love to see so many kids out here with their parents getting active.

It is typically always busy and overcrowded at the top. People often say it’s challenging to even get a good photo without other people in the shot. The space is somewhat tight at the top especially if you are trying to see while holding on to your toddlers to make sure they don’t go exploring without you. My son is a climber. As you are wrapping around the mountain there are normally kids playing around trying to climb. My 3 year old of course wanted to give it a go.
Last time when we were there he tried to climb to the top and got pretty far! My mom senses were going crazy! I had to pull him down because I was wearing a baby and was nervous he was going to get too far and I wouldn’t be able to get him down.
Once, at the top the view is really neat. Who wouldn’t want to hang out in a Hole-in-the Rock? I haven’t had the opportunity to view a sunset from this viewpoint however, I can only imagine how gorgeous seeing the cotton candy Phoenix skies look from this lookout spot.
