Things to do in Cancun with Kids

  1. El Parque Las Palapas Cancun

If you want to experience things like the locals of Cancun. This is it. There were a ton of families and kids running around. The kids can have fun playing carnival-like games, riding rides and eating all the churros. There are a ton of food vendors out with all different kinds of food and treats. (Bring Pesos… only a few of the shop vendors take credit card here.)

2. Visit Mercado 28 – Flea Market

Great place to get all your souvenirs. Don’t buy them from that store that sells tequila where the cabs drop you off. They are overpriced and you can get them from the local flea market stores in the actual Mercado. You will see lines and lines of little shop vendors selling all the souvenirs to pick from. Be sure to barter a bit as the prices aren’t completely firm.

3. Spend the day at a Hotel Beach – Casa Maya

We typically opt to stay at an Airbnb for ease. We love being able to have the entire house or condo to ourselves – plus having extra room for the kids to play and run around is always needed. A full kitchen and pool at our disposal especially when we are staying for longer then a couple nights. In our most recent stay since we stayed in Downtown Cancun we weren’t as close to the beach so, we decided try out a couple day passes to some resorts in the Hotel Zone. Our favorite was the Hotel Casa Maya. You purchase a day pass for $499 MX but, they give you $450 MX credit to use on food throughout the day. Its a win-win to me! You get full access to all the pools, beach equipment etc. They have an on the beach playground and trampoline for the kids. Our boys were obsessed and had so much fun playing here while mom got to lay on the beach right next to them.

Transportation in and around Cancun

Uber works in some spots around Cancun. It isn’t the most reliable so if you are in a need of a ride quickly your best bet might be to flag down a taxi. It did work a few times around the Hotel Zone but, the time it take can vary. My husband had to wait 25-30 min to even get connected to a car at some moments on the trip. There is another app that works great around Downtown ONLY called Cabify. It doesn’t work at all in the Hotel Zone FYI.

We love spending time in Mexico, its one of my kids favorite vacation spots. I hope you enjoy making memories in Cancun!
